The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is an independent statutory agency established by the Australian government on June 15, 1993, under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Act 1992. It is the national regulatory body responsible for the assessment and registration of agricultural and veterinary chemicals entering the Australian market.

APVMA's primary role is to evaluate and register all agricultural and veterinary chemicals, including pesticides, veterinary drugs, and adjuvants, ensuring these products are safe for human health, animal health, and the environment. APVMA collaborates with state and territory governments and other Australian government agencies to manage the National Registration Scheme for Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (NRS), which encompasses the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Act 1992, the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act 1994, the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code 1994, and the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Charges) Act 1994.
